The Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass Monitoring Committee will meet to discuss 2023 recreational management measures for each species. The Monitoring Committee will consider how to apply the recently adopted Harvest Control Rule Percent Change Approach to these species in 2023, including the percent change in harvest the measures should achieve in 2023. The Monitoring Committee will also recommend the appropriate coastwide or federal waters recreational management measures (e.g., possession limits, fish size limits, seasons) for all three species.

Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass Monitoring Committee

The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council's Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass Monitoring Committee (MC) will meet on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The meeting will be held via webinar.

The MC will meet to discuss considerations for developing 2023 recreational management measures for all three species. These discussions will inform additional analysis that will be conducted prior to another meeting of the MC in November. During this first meeting, the MC will review 1) the Recreational Harvest Control Rule Percent Change Process approved by the Council in June 2022, 2) the results of the recently completed Summer Flounder Management Strategy Evaluation which explored strategies to reduce recreational discards, and 3) two recreational harvest estimation models that could be used to inform development of 2023 management measures. The MC will discuss the implications of these issues for development of 2023 recreational management measures, which will be further discussed at a subsequent MC meeting in November 2022.

Bluefish Monitoring Committee Meeting

The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council's (MAFMC) Bluefish Monitoring Committee (MC) will meet via webinar on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, from 9 am to 12 pm. The purpose of this meeting is for the Monitoring Committee to review 2023 commercial and recreational management measures and recommend any changes if necessary. To inform their recommendations, the MC will review recent catch and landings information, the Fishery Performance Report developed by the Advisory Panel, the 2023 ABC recommendation by the SSC, and other relevant information.

Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish Monitoring Committee Meeting

The Council's Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish Monitoring Committee will meet via webinar on Friday May 20, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. EDT.

The objectives of this meeting are for the Monitoring Committee to:

  1. Review recent longfin squid and chub mackerel fishery performance and management measure recommendations from the Advisory Panel, the Scientific and Statistical Committee, and Council staff;

  2. Review, and if appropriate, recommend changes to the previously implemented 2023 longfin squid specifications; and

  3. Recommend 2023-2025 annual catch limits, annual catch targets, total allowable landings limits, and other management measures for chub mackerel.

Mackerel, Squid, Butterfish Monitoring Committee Meeting

The Council’s Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish (MSB) Monitoring Committee will meet on Friday, March 18, 2022, from 1:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to review recent fishery performance and the Scientific and Statistical Committee’s (SSC) catch recommendations regarding Illex squid and Atlantic mackerel. Based on the SSC’s recommendations, the Monitoring Committee will develop recommendations about Illex squid specifications and Atlantic mackerel rebuilding.

The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council’s Tilefish Monitoring Committee will hold a public webinar meeting on Thursday, March 17, 2022, from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. The meeting will be held via webinar.
