Mid-Atlantic Council Votes to Reduce Spiny Dogfish Quota for 2016

At last week’s meeting in Philadelphia, the Council recommended a 50% reduction in the commercial quota for spiny dogfish next year.

Spiny Dogfish Public Information Webinar

The Council will host a public information webinar on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 6 p.m. to gather public perspectives on spiny dogfish management.

Council to Hold Scoping Hearings for Action on Unmanaged Forage Species

The Council will hold scoping hearings between September 15 and October 1, 2015 to gather public input for a proposed action to protect unmanaged forage species. Written comments may also be submitted through October 2, 2015.

Request for Proposals: Managing Cooperative Fisheries Research

Mid-Atlantic Council Seeks Applicants for Trawl Survey Advisory Panel

The Council is soliciting applications from qualified individuals to serve on the Northeast Trawl Survey Advisory Panel. Applications are due by August 4, 2015.

This week the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council approved an amendment to protect deep sea corals from the impacts of bottom-tending fishing gear in the Mid-Atlantic.

Listening Session: Proposed Rule to Revise Listing Status of Humpback Whales

Members of the public are invited to attend the Council’s next listening session at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9 to learn about – and provide comments on – a proposed rule to revise the Endangered Species Act (ESA) listing of humpback whales.
